Joan Sebastián Zamora joined The Joffrey Ballet in 2015.

Mr. Zamora began his training at the age of eight in Colombia at the Colombian institute of classical ballet Incolballet, at eleven was awarded a five-year scholarship by the American Ballet Theatre to extend his training in the summer intensive program. He trained at the Rock School for dance education and graduated with honors from The Royal Ballet upper school.

 

Mr. Zamora began his professional career at the English National Ballet where he danced numerous ballets including; Derek Dean’s Swan Lake, Coppélia and Romeo and Juliet, Le Corsaire staged by Anne Marie Holmes, Wayne Eagling’s The Nutcracker, and other works by Arkram Khan and Russell Maliphant. He also competed at the annual Emerging Dancer competition.

 

Since joining the Joffrey, Mr. Zamora has performed a variety of works; John Neumeier’s Sylvia, Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella, Yuri Possokhov’s RaKu and The Miraculous Mandarin, Ashley Page’s Tipping Point, Krzysztof Pastor’s Romeo & Juliet, Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker, Mammatus by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Christopher Wheeldon’s The Nutcracker, among other works.

 

Mr. Zamora was awarded by Mayor Rodrigo Guerrero (Cali, Colombia) a medal for Contribution to the creation of an environment that favors the love for the city, the Silver medal at the Youth American Grand Prix 2010, he was a finalist at the Jackson International Ballet Competition 2010 and was featured in the 2011 award-winning documentary First Position
