GUOPING WANG

born and raised in Shanghai, China, joined The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago in
October 1995.

Having received his training at the Shanghai
Dance Academy (1973-79), Wang was a principal dancer with the Shanghai Ballet Company from
1980-87. He served as a guest teacher with the company from 1987-91, choreographing a
piece for television during this time. Wang danced with the Indiana University Ballet
Theatre, while receiving an Artist Diploma there (1991-93). From 1993-95, Wang was a
principal dancer with Ballet Chicago and Colorado Ballet, and danced with the Lyric Opera
of Chicago. He has guested with Indiana Ballet (1994) and Salt Creek Ballet (1995).

Among Wang’s many roles, he has danced the Peasant Pas de Deux in
GISELLE, Prince Florimund in SLEEPING BEAUTY, the Snow Prince in THE NUTCRACKER, and
during The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago’s recent 40th Anniversary engagement at the Civic
Opera House, the Torch Bearer in Gerald Arpino’s OLYMPICS.

Wang has been married for seven years to Shaojing Zheng, who also
danced with the Shanghai Ballet.
