Experience the Joffrey premiere of this immortal classic. First performed by the Paris Opera in 1841, ballet’s most famous ghost story about love and redemption has been enchanting
audiences for more than 160 years. The Joffrey’s premiere production of Giselle will draw from revered historical versions of the ballet, but also highlight the strengths of the current Company
ensemble. Frederic Franklin, the legendary Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo dancer, will coach The Joffrey dancers for this production. The beloved and
haunting score by Adolphe Adam will be played by the Chicago Sinfonietta under the baton of Joffrey Principal Conductor and Music Director Dr. Leslie B. Dunner.
“I have always loved the ballet Giselle as a complete piece of Theater. The story is transcendent in its simplicity and takes audiences to a different dimension of themselves. Presenting Giselle, a standard of the classical repertoire is a radical move for The Joffrey but as the premiere ballet company of Chicago, our audiences deserve to see this great work performed by our brilliant company of dancer/actors.”
– Gerald Arpino –

The Chicago Sinfonietta is the official orchestra of The Joffrey Ballet and is the country’s most diverse orchestra. The orchestra also performs in Chicago’s renowned
Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center and has been the orchestra in residence at Dominican University in River Forest since 1987. Chicago Sinfonietta musicians truly represent the city’s rich
cultural landscape, and continue to fulfill the orchestra’s mission of Musical Excellence through Diversity.
