White Widow is a haunting solo for a woman on a rope. The music (Angelo Badelamenti and David Lynch’s “The World Turns”) speaks of longing and loss while the dancer spins and floats through
the air, desperately reaching for an unattainable goal. The work requires extreme strength and control of the dancer while creating an air of delicacy and mystery. White Widow was created by Moses
Pendleton (founding member of Pilobolus) and Cynthia Quinn for their company, Momix. The Joffrey is the only other company to present this work, and it was featured in Robert Altman’s film about
The Joffrey Ballet, “The Company.”
