This riveting, rapturous solo was first presented by The Joffrey Ballet in 1996 as part of Legends, a suite of dances by women choreographers set to songs by iconic female singers of the 20th century. In Dance for Yal, a woman dressed in vivid red performs on a swing, arching high out above the audience, swooping, swaying, the choreography as evocative and breathtaking as it is physically daring. Set to Edith Piaf singing her hopelessly romantic anthem “Et Pourtant,” this one-of-a-kind ballet is a vivid tribute to the transforming power of love.
