joined
the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago in September of 1999.

Before
joining the Joffrey, Mr. Rubio performed with Taller Coreografico De La
Unam, where he performed in over eighty ballets including, Romeo and
Juliet, Hamlet and Firebird.  He
was also a member of the National Company in Mexico City where he
performed in ballets including Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Don
Quixote.  He was also a guest
artist at Cia Arte Signo XXI.  He
has performed with the Newbert Ballet, the New York State Opera and the
Rimsky Korasakov Ballet Company in St. Petersburg.

Mr.
Rubio began studying dance at the age of 18 with Dagmar Kortum and Dariuz
Blajer.    He went
on to study with Andrei Kramereksky and with Hector Zaraspe at Julliard,
at the School of American Ballet, and with Martin Putke in Berlin, West
Germany.  In addition to
ballet, he studied the Graham Technique with Raul Flores Canelo and
Flamenco with Jose de Udaeta.

Additionally,
Mr. Rubio has taught dance and recently choreographed a ballet to an
original score that he composed.  He
was the recipient of an award for “best male soloist” in Mexico City
and the Fonca Award scholarship.  Mr.
Rubio has published three dance technique books, working as illustrator
and co-author along with Gloria Contreras. 
He has also staged an exhibit at the Universum Museum in Mexico
City and other cultural spaces that shows the scientific side of dance
through drawings, sculpture, training equipment and videos that he has
designed.
