Camila Ferrera joined The Joffrey Ballet in 2015.

 

Ms. Ferrera was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, and is very proud of her Cuban and Argentinian descent. She began her training at six years old under the instruction of her mother, Sonia Grimaldi. At the age of nine, she continued her training at the School of American Ballet under the artistic direction of Peter Martins and teachers Katrina Killian, Darci Kistler, Olga Kostritzky, Garielle Whittle and Sheryl Ware. During that period, she performed at the David H. Koch Theater with the New York City Ballet in The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.

 

Ms. Ferrera participated in her second summer at the American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Young Dancer Workshop and was accepted as a student at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School (JKO) soon after. During that period she studied under the supervision of Franco De Vita, Olga Dvorovenko, Susan Jaffe, Jessica Lang, Raymond Lukens, Kate Lydon, Lupe Serrano and Martine van Hamel. She also spent five summers at ABT’s Summer Intensive under the direction of Melissa Allen Bowman from 2009-2013. 

 

While at the JKO School, she performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in ABT’s Le Corsaire, George Balanchine’s Mozartiana and Alexei Ratmansky’s Carnaval des Animaux. She was awarded the ABT Summer Intensive Scholarship, ABT National Training Scholarship and The Mae L. Wien Scholarship at the JKO School, awarded for outstanding talent, ability and promise.

 

In 2013, Ms. Ferrera the joined the Trainee program at the Joffrey Academy of Dance under the supervision of Ashley Wheater, Alexei Kremnev, Anna Reznik, Nicolas Blanc, Graca Sales and Suzanne Lopez. In 2014, she joined Joffrey’s Studio Company and performed in Christopher Wheeldon’s Swan Lake, Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker, and Alexander Ekman’s Tulle with The Joffrey Ballet.
