Working in collaboration with the Chicago Park District (CPD), The Joffrey Ballet has designed several programs to enhance dance classes made available through CPD cultural centers and other facilities.

Ballet in the Park

Ballet in the Park teaches ballet in the format of bi-weekly afternoon classes running for 10- and 15-week sessions. The Joffrey Ballet provides an informative study guide and a Teaching Artist instructs the students in ballet movement, style, technique and physical awareness.

Water Ballet Workshop

The Water Ballet Workshop is a Chicago Park District partnership program that takes place in the summer. Joffrey Ballet dancers teach the students excerpts from Swan Lake re-choreographed for the pool, as well as popular dances familiar to the children to foster enthusiasm for dance. This exciting workshop provides an opportunity for students to experience dance in an informal setting where they work closely with Joffrey dancers.

The Joffrey’s Gallery 37 Summer Intensive at Tuley Park

The Joffrey’s Gallery 37 Summer Intensive at Tuley Park is a partnership program with the Chicago Park District involving six weeks of concentrated involvement both physically and intellectually with the styles of ballet, modern and jazz dance. Students learn choreography from a different Joffrey dancer each week during 20 focused hours of learning spread over four days. Students are also asked to reflect on their experiences by keeping journals in which they both contemplate the learning process and record actual steps. The students’ final performance allows them to showcase more than 12 polished ballets for the community.
