The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago

Robert Joffrey and Gerald ArpinoThe Joffrey Ballet of
Chicago exists to bring the vision of founders Robert
Joffrey
and Gerald Arpino to life.
These two men envisioned a truly and distinctively American ballet company
and founded The Joffrey Ballet in
1956.  Gerald Arpino
has carried on the strong tradition of The Joffrey Ballet as Artistic
Director even to this day.

In
1995, Gerald Arpino established The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and moved
the company’s home to Chicago’s downtown area.  Since then, the
company has flourished.  Now The JBC maintains its place at the
forefront of American dance, and enjoys a new place, as a major force in
Chicago’s own culture and identity.

The
City of Chicago has embraced The JBC and Mr. Arpino would not have it
any other way.  “When people ask me where I’m from now, I tell
them I’m a Chicagoan.”
