joined The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago in November 1996, after dancing with The
Joffrey II Dancers (August-October 1996) and attending The Joffrey School as a scholarship
student (June-October 1996).
Oliveira’s principal roles with
The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago have included Gerald Arpino’s CONFETTI, Frivolity
in The Joffrey’s highly acclaimed reconstruction of LES PRESAGES, and Mlle. Fanny
Cerrito in Robert Joffrey’s PAS DES DEESSES.
Prior to joining The Joffrey, Oliveira danced with the Municipal
Theater of Rio de Janeiro (1994-95) and the Fernando Bujones Dance Company (1993). With
these Brazillian companies, she performed principal roles in DON QUIXOTE, THE NUTCRACKER
and PAQUITA, among others.
Oliveira began her ballet training at age seven with Maria Oleneua
at the Rio de Janeiro State School of Dance, where she studied for nine years.
Oliveira has taken part in many dance competitions, winning first
prize at the 1995 Sanslan International Ballet Competition in Pretoria, South Africa. She
also took first place at the 1991 American Ballet Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
and was a finalist in the International Ballet Competition in Trujillo, Peru.
“Dance has always been my life,” says Oliveira, “and
I can’t imagine living without it.” Oliveira speaks fluent Portuguese and English, as
well as basic German and French.
