118 Children Join the Nutcracker Cast

(Chicago,
November 1999)
The
Joffrey Ballet of Chicago’s annual Nutcracker
has become a Chicago family holiday tradition in more ways than one… In
addition to hundreds of thousands of families who have made a tradition of
coming to see Robert Joffrey’s The
Nutcracker,
this year, twelve
families are carrying on the tradition of having siblings performing in The Nutcracker.   Thirty-one
performances of The Nutcracker, sponsored by Chicago Tribune, will
be performed by The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago
at the historic Auditorium Theater, 50 East Congress Parkway, November
26 – December 26, 1999.

Gerald
Arpino, Founder and Artistic Director of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, is
pleased to announce that the thirty-three dancers from The Joffrey Ballet
of Chicago, will be joined by four seasonal dancers and ten apprentices,
as well as 118 local young dancers representing 39 dance schools.

The
young dancers representing more than 39 area dance schools will dance
throughout the production, including the roles of “Guests” in the
Party Scene;  “The Second
Battalion of Mice,” “Cavalry Mice” and “Soldiers,” from the
Magical Battleground Scene, as well as “Dolls Under The Tree.”
In the scene from the Land of The Snow, they are “Snow Trees”
and in Act two the young dancers become “Mother Ginger’s Polichinelles.”  Among these young dancers (See attachment for complete list)
are 4 young dancers who are in wheelchairs.
And of these 118 children we have 12 sets of sisters including one
family that has three girls in this production.

performance schedule will be as follow:
