The Joffrey Tower
The campaign for The Joffrey Ballet will bring much more than a new building to a busy downtown street corner.
It will create a home for Chicago’s most compelling dance company,
and will give rise to artists of tomorrow through training, mentoring, and educating young audiences and dancers . The coming years for The Joffrey are thrilling ones for the cultural
community and all of Chicagoland. Chicago will have a permanent home for its world-class ballet company, and The Joffrey will complete the Mayor’s vision of a Chicago cultural district in
the Loop.
The home for The Joffrey will be located on one of Chicago’s most prominent intersections, at State and Randolph Streets, in the heart of the city’s theater district. Designed
by the Chicago firm of Booth Hansen and developed by Smithfield Properties, Joffrey Tower will make a bold architectural statement in the heart of Chicago’s Loop.
What was once an unremarkable
commercial site will be transformed into a focal point for the city and the entire dance world.
A new, permanent home for The Joffrey will allow the company’s creative leadership, dancers, administration, technical staff, guest artists, students, and apprentices to work
together under one roof, creating streamlined operations and a more efficient and accomplished organization. Enhanced permanent facilities will help The Joffrey to recruit and retain
the very best dancers while also continuing to attract world-class performers, guest artists and collaborators. The planned space will allow the company to rehearse and present
more of its repertoire, mount additional full-length ballets, extend its apprentice program, launch additional revivals, and provide young dancers and choreographers the opportunity
to train and present their new works.
