The Joffrey Ballet presents the Midwest premiere of Ronald Hynd’s The Merry Widow for its Winter program in the current 2010-2011 Stars season. Hynd originally choreographed the three-act story ballet for The Australian Ballet in 1975, set to an adaptation of Franz Lehár’s 1905 romantic operetta The Merry Widow. This evening-length work, also a company premiere, will be performed at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, February 16–27, 2011.

We look to capture the magic of Ronald Hynd’s The Merry Widow production with a glamorous luncheon to raise funds for the Joffrey’s Boeing Bridge Program – a dance program designed to introduce Chicago Public School students to the basic elements of ballet technique. “Lunch at Maxim’s: Celebrating The Merry Widow” will take place at the Four Seasons on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 12:00pm. The lunch will feature a spectacular raffle, indulgent Parisian-style pampering and creative cuisine.

Last winter, Chicago’s most dazzling philanthropic and professional women gathered at the Four Seasons Chicago for a glittery luncheon to celebrate the Joffrey’s production of Cinderella. The ‘Cindy’s Having a Ball!’ luncheon proved a wild success and raised significant awareness about the production and funds for the Joffrey’s new program ‘Cinderella’s Scholarship for Young Girls,’ benefitting the nearly 1,000 students who annually attend classes.
