Letter from Mr. Arpino
Entering
this new millennium, I have focused our season opening upon one of the
great American composers, Aaron Copland.
Martha Graham’s APPALACHIAN SPRING and Eugene Loring’s BILLY
THE KID, each acclaimed masterworks, are paired with two ballets that
showcase Copland’s musical influence on the young American
choreographers Randy Duncan and Tony Powell.
Next,
we bring you an evening of my works, including two by popular demand:
FOOTNOTES FOR RJ and SUITE
SAINT-SAËNS, plus two long-absent
revivals, the Mozart-inspired SECRET PLACES, and
REFLECTIONS, set to Tchaikovsky’s
“Rococo Variations.”
Of course, it
wouldn’t be the holidays without Robert Joffrey’s magical production
of THE NUTCRACKER.
To welcome
spring, you won’t want to miss the JBC premiere of Anthony Tudor’s
rapturous LILAC GARDEN, and Robert Joffrey’s ground breaking
multimedia rock classic, ASTARTE.
As a grand
finale, I have selected John Cranko’s rousing, bawdy, full-evening
Shakespearean comedy, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.
Dance is the
essence of celebration. With
your subscription, we will celebrate this still-new millennium together!
As always, my heartfelt thanks for your love, loyalty, and
continuing support.
Gerald
Arpino, Artistic Director
