DAVIDA HAAS

joined The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago in September 1998.

Davida began her studies with Madame Anna Deyden in Milan , Italy at age
eight. She continued her training with Gilbert Rome and Margot Marshall in Houston, Texas.
In
1986, Davida trained at the Boston Ballet Academy and performed with
Boston Ballet II.

Upon returning to Houston, Davida joined the Houston Ballet Academy
until she became a member of the Houston Ballet in 1988. There she poerformed in a
repertoire that included George Balanchine’s Serenade and Western Symphony,
Jiri Kylian’s Symphony in D, Kenneth MacMillan’s Ellite
Syncopation,
and Ben Stevenson’s Peer Gynt, Sleeping Beauty and
Cinderella.

In 1992, Davida left Houston to join Oregon Ballet Theatre under the
direction of former Joffrey dancer, James Canfield. In her six years with the Oregon
Ballet Theatre, Davida danced many featured roles including “Juliet” in James
Canfield’s Romeo and Juliet, “Marie” in Mr. Canfield’s The
Nutcracker
and “Peasant Pas De Deux” in Giselle. Besides performing
extensively in other works of Mr. Canfield’s, Davida danced notable roles in Paul
Taylor’s Cloven Kindom, Donald Byrd’s Life Situations, Josie
Mosely’s With and Robert Joffrey’s Pas Des Deesses.

National dance critic Martha Ulman West has called Davida “a
steely sprite…” and “a dancer with lyricism and classical decorum.”
