Matthew began studying dance in Jerome, Idaho at age 7. As a child he participated in many musical theatre productions, was active in sports, was a member of a ski team and was an Eagle Scout.
At age 15 Prescott left home to study ballet at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. He attended on a full scholarship and was elected student body president his senior year. He graduated with honors and went on to study ballet at the Bolshoi Academy at Vail, Pacific Northwest Ballet School and The Joffrey Ballet Midwest and New York summer programs. He received scholarships to several major dance schools, including The Julliard School.
Prescott was a student in the founding class of The Joffrey Ballet/New School University BFA program in New York. He joined The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago as a full time dancer in July of 2000.
