Fall 1: Celebrating Copland’s Centennial

APPALACHIAN SPRING
(Graham/Copland) (JBC Premiere) Martha Graham’s masterpiece pays homage
to the strength of
the
American pioneers’ spirit and their glorious and inspirational
landscape.



COPLAND MOTETS (Duncan/Copland) A
trio of two men and one woman take turns lifting each other as they ascend
to heaven.  Featuring the Oriana Singers.



LYRIC DISCOURSE
(Powell/Powell) (World Premiere) Tony Powell choreographed and composed
this original score, inspired by his love of Copland’s music.



BILLY THE KID (Loring/Copland)
(Revival) The life, loves, retribution and fall of a handsome young
badlands desperado.  Loring’s
groundbreaking choreography ignites, through dance, a piece of American
folklore.

FOR RJ (Arpino/Macero) Gerald Arpino’s reflections on Robert Joffrey’s
regard for neo-classical style.  The
driving score melds with the choreography, creating a sense of abstract
expressionism combined with minimalism.
