Students who were unable to attend an audition in person can submit a video audition following directions under the ‘Video/DVD Auditions tab. Video auditions will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
International Audition Tour Information
Admission into the Joffrey Academy Summer Intensives is by audition only. Summer Intensive auditions are open to all students ages 7 to 21+. Students should audition according to their age on the date of the audition, not the age they will be during the time of the summer program. Students interested in our year-round Conservatory Program, Trainee Program or Studio Company should also audition during the International Audition Tour.

Register below in two easy steps!To pre-register for an audition:
Online pre-registration is strongly recommended but not required. To pre-register, dancers must register online and complete the Online Audition Form. Online pre-registration will close the prior Sunday of each audition. Pre-registered students who have completed the Online Audition Form will not need to bring any additional materials to the audition.
International Audition FormsThe Joffrey Academy is happy to provide forms for International students in French, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese. We ask that students fill out the forms in English. Please complete forms and send video per the instructions below.

Video/DVD Auditions
Students who are unable to attend the audition tour may submit a video audition electronically or by mail. Video auditions will be reviewed beginning January 1, 2018. Video auditions are accepted on an ongoing basis, as space permits. It is highly recommended that students submit video auditions by February 1, as space in our programs fills up quickly. Students who submit a video audition after February 1, may not receive a result before registration opens. The prospective student should be easily identifiable in the video. Result emails are sent to the email provided within 14 days once video and payment are received.
Step 1: Register and Pay Audition Fee
If new to the Joffrey Academy, please create a guest account. If you are a past or current student, please login to your existing account. If you do not know your login information, please call Academy Reception at 312.784.4600.
Step 2: Complete the Video Audition Form
In order to complete the online form student will need to upload:
- A headshot with ballet hairstyle
- For students ages 12 and up: First Arabesque Photo (Ladies – on pointe)
- An audition video link
Audition video must be no longer than 15 minutes in length and should include:
- Barre exercises (one side only)
- Center: Adage, Pirouette, Petite Allégro and Grande Allégro (on pointe, if applicable)
- One solo: (not mandatory) in practice clothes
- Students ages 7-8 are only required to demonstrate combinations done in their regular ballet classes

If submitting by mail, please send the following along with your Video/DVD:
- $40 non-refundable video audition fee by cash or check payable to The Joffrey Ballet
- Completed Audition Form
- A headshot (4″x6″) with ballet hairstyle
- For students ages 12 and up: First Arabesque Photo (4″x6″, Ladies – on pointe)
- Video/DVD must be labeled with student name and age
- Note: materials will not be returned
Students will be accepted and placed into programs based on their video audition and solely at the discretion of the artistic staff. Acceptance and level is subject to change after student’s first in-person class.
