Avichai Scher joined The Joffrey Ballet in August 2005. Mr. Scher began his ballet training in Israel at the age of five before moving to the United States five years later. He attended the School of American Ballet for eight years, where he performed four Nutcracker seasons (playing Fritz and the Prince) with the New York City Ballet. Mr. Scher briefly studied at the Miami City Ballet School and the San Francisco Ballet School. Prior to joining The Joffrey, Mr. Scher was also a member of the Sacramento Ballet, Washington Ballet, and Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley, where some repertory highlights included such works as Giselle and Shinju.

In addition to performing, Mr. Scher has a passion as a choreographer. With 25 creations to his credit, Mr. Scher’s works have been danced by ABT Studio Company, Miami City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet Trainees, Washington Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, and the School of American Ballet. In January 2005 DANCE Magazine named Mr. Scher one of the top 25 to watch in 2005.

In addition to choreography, his other interests include teaching Pilates and being with friends.
