Adult Open Division

Overview

The Adult Open Division is designed for adult dancers of all ages and abilities. Whether a student has years of dance experience or wants to learn dance for the first time, the Academy has the perfect class. All classes are fun, educational, and challenging for working professionals and others interested in dance. The drop-in schedule allows for flexibility and variety, offering a great workout to relieve daily stress.

Adult Pilates Cancelled Monday, June 25

The Adult Division Pilates class is cancelled this upcoming Monday, June 25 from 12:00-1:00pm.

Professional Drop-in Class*: $10.00
College Student Drop-in Class*: $12.00

Intro to Pointe Enrollment Series**: $165

**Series classes cannot be pro-rated if student enrolls after the first week of classes.
 

* Must present a valid student ID, union card, letter of verification on letterheard from the institute of employment, or a CPS ID to be eligible

**Series classes are not drop-in classes. Students must register for the full session. Students must be approved for Intro to Pointe. Approval forms are available at Reception.

 

10 Class Cards

Class Cards are only valid during the semester in which they are purchased. No extensions or refunds will be issued for unused classes.

 

Drop-in Classes

Drop-in classes do not require pre-registration or enrollment. Students may begin at any time during the semester, and take a drop-in class of their choice. This allows the adult student flexibility with their schedule and variety in their dance lessons. Join us at any time throughout the semester for a drop-in class! 

 

Enrollment-Based Classes

Intro to Pointe Enrollment Series *Teacher’s approval required*

Tuesdays, 7:30-8:15pm – 12 weeks

Session: 6/5, 6/12, 6/19, 6/26, 7/3, 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 8/7, 8/14, 8/21

This 12-class series, focused on basic beginning pointe work, will guide the students through pre-pointe preparation, finding a proper pointe shoe, sewing, and beginning pointe exercises. For the safety of the students, it is mandatory that they take two ballet technique classes a week, including the ballet class immediately preceding pointe. The instructor will need to approve student’s enrollment in pointe during the Tuesday technique class. Please pick up an approval form from Reception as you check in for technique class.

 

About Enrollment-Based Class Registration:

Intro to Pointe is an enrollment based class, not a drop-in class. Students must be approved for Intro to Pointe prior to registering.

Enrollment opens the first day of each semester for enrollment-based classes. Students must enroll at Reception. Registration is available until each class is full (capacity: 16 students). The class is filled on a first come, first served basis. Classes cannot be pro-rated if student enrolls after the first week of classes. 

Adult Division Recommended Attire and Shoes

In general, close-fitting clothing that allows the dancer to feel comfortable and allows for proper instruction is recommended. Some prefer to wear a leotard and dance tights, dance shorts or a dance skirt, however this is not required. No costumes or tutus please.

Ballet, Keep Fit Ballet- Ballet shoes or socks

BeMoved- Socks, ballet shoes, or jazz shoes

Isadora Duncan Modern, Pilates, Yoga – Socks or bare feet

Hip Hop- Sneakers or jazz shoes – no street shoes in the studios please

Jazz- Jazz shoes, ballet shoes, or socks

Studio Late Policy

Our classes require a proper warm up in order to avoid injury, therefore, either Reception or Faculty may ask students to not participate if they arrive more than 10 minutes late.

Classes

Classes

Ballet Vocabulary

Students will work on learning key vocabulary that is used during ballet classes. Students can expect to perform simple exercises to reinforce the vocabulary learned during this class, and are encouraged to take the Basic Ballet class immediately following.

Basic Ballet

An introduction to ballet technique, no previous experience is required.

Beginning Ballet   

Appropriate for students with basic understanding and knowledge of ballet technique and that have taken basic ballet.

 

Keep Fit Ballet   

Keep Fit is a one hour class for dancers familiar with ballet technique.  Strength and stretching exercises are infused in the traditional ballet class to improve flexibility, condition the muscles, and aid in balance and stability while experiencing the joy and beauty of ballet.

Advanced Beginning Ballet   

For the experienced beginner, an introduction to new material and preparation for intermediate ballet.

Intermediate Ballet   

Technical proficiency and sufficient knowledge of ballet terminology required.

Intro to Pointe

Enrollment Class Series – not a Drop-in Class

This series guides students through pre-pointe preparation and basic beginning pointe work. For the safety of the students, it is mandatory that they take two ballet technique classes a week, including the Intermediate Ballet class immediately preceding Pointe. The instructor will need to approve student’s enrollment in pointe during their ballet technique class. Please pick up an approval form from Reception.

 

Advanced/Professional Ballet   

Technical proficiency required, a professional level class.

 

Beginning Classical Modern Isadora Duncan Technique

Dancers will explore the origins of modern dance through the technique of Isadora Duncan, which focuses on freedom, flow, and spontaneity, fosters creativity and connection with others and the self, and emphasizes musicality. Appropriate for students with prior dance / movement experience and new to Isadora Duncan technique.

 

Advanced Beginning Classical Modern Isadora Duncan Technique

Dancers will explore the origins of modern dance through the technique of Isadora Duncan, which focuses on freedom, flow, and spontaneity, fosters creativity and connection with others and the self, and emphasizes musicality. Appropriate for students with previous experience in Isadora Duncan technique. 

  

BeMoved®

BeMoved® is a new dance fitness experience designed by Sherry Zunker. Classes begin with easy‐to‐follow therapeutic movements that integrate the upper and lower body. The warm up flows into dance styles inspired by a wide variety of musical genres. Each week focuses on a different musical and dance style such as Bollywood, jazz, Latin and disco. BeMoved is designed to inspire participants to embrace dance as a lifelong means to health, joy and fulfillment.

 

Hip Hop

A high energy class with fun and challenging combinations to upbeat rhythms that will build core strength and endurance. 

 

Jazz

An upbeat class that will develop your musicality, creativity, endurance, and coordination.

 

Pilates

This is a core strengthening class with an emphasis on improving strength and flexibility, as well as awareness, efficiency, flow and stamina.

Yoga

Yoga presents a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling, all the while bringing the physical body to optimum health.
