Trainee Program (2010-2011)
SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 – JUNE 5, 2011
GENERALLY AGES 17-21
The Academy of Dance offers a program specifically to meet the needs of 17- to 20-year-olds from all over the world preparing for a professional dance career. Participation in the Trainee Program is by invitation from Artistic Director Ashley C. Wheater and Academy Artistic Directors Alexei Kremnev and Anna Reznik
The Trainee Program is a one- to two-year program where students train daily in ballet technique, pointe, pas de deux, as well as character, male virtuosity, jazz, modern, and other dance disciplines. Trainees rehearse and perform classical and contemporary works from The Joffrey Ballet’s repertoire and have the opportunity to work with guest choreographers as well as Artistic Director Ashley C. Wheater.
Daily classes run Monday through Saturday. The Trainee curriculum also includes enrichment classes on some of the following topics: dance history, acting, pantomime, theatrical makeup, costume and lighting design. Trainees may have the opportunity to attend workshops on audition techniques, pedagogy, handling business and financial matters, as well as exploring other career options.
Our ultimate goal is to assist students in becoming whole, healthy and happy adults who have a true passion for dance and a clear understanding of how to make dance a career. The personal attention and guidance by Joffrey staff will help prepare each student for his/her career as a dancer.
