Children’s division class descriptions

First Semester 2009-2010

Creative Movement I (must be age 3 by 9/8/09)

Creative Movement II (must be age 4 by 9/8/09)                                                                                  

An introduction to dance! Students learn to love dance while developing, coordination, imagination, memory, musicality and motor skills..

Boys Jaguars (must be age 5 by 9/8/09)

In this class, boys who are ready for a high-energy challenge will discover the fun and athleticism of ballet. Incorporating rhythm, props, and sports movements, students will create original dances while developing coordination and healthy body knowledge.

Pre-Ballet I (must be 5 by 9/8/09)

Pre-Ballet II (must be 6 by 9/8/09)                                                                                                      

An introduction to dance! This class teaches beginning ballet concepts, developing coordination, strength, flexibility and musicality. Students are introduced to the structure of a ballet class.

Pre Tap (must be 5 by 9/8/09)

An introduction to dance! This class teaches beginning tap concepts. Class will focus on rhythm and musicality.

Ballet I (must be age 7 by 9/8/09)

Level I students will focus on the development of the attention span, self-discipline, proper conduct in class, memory and focus for the training process. They will continue to develop motor functions, flexibility, coordination, extension, jumps, etc. Concentration will be given to placement and correct body alignment so the student can master placement of the body, legs, arms and head. Beginning musical consideration, such as phrasing, accents, tempo and rhythm will be emphasized.

Ballet II: (generally 8-9 years, by placement only)

Level II students continue training in the fundamentals of classical ballet technique, vocabulary and studio etiquette. This level focuses on the development of technical skills, coordination, discipline and musicality. Their physical training will concentrate on placement and correct body alignment.

Children’s Beginning Jazz (must be 7-9 years by 9/8/09)

A great class for Ballet I and II students! This class is designed for students will little to no jazz experience. This class covers the basic steps and vocabulary, and will learn basic techniques stemming from ballet and modern dance.
