Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the genius of Antony Tudor, the first choreographer to marry psychology to ballet. This multi-faceted program explores the inner landscapes of three of his seminal works as they journey from love and loss to laughter. Set to the music of Ernest Chausson, Jardin aux Lilacs (Lilac Garden) is a glorious Victorian melodrama of intrigue and secret love affairs. Dark Elegies, set to Gustav Mahler’s haunting Kindertotenlieder, portrays a heartbroken community as it comes together to grieve, support one another, and finally accept the death of its children to an epidemic. The joyous Parisian romp, Offenbach in the Underworld, closes the program and is guaranteed to send you home smiling. Dr. Leslie B. Dunner and the Chicago Sinfonietta will accompany the entire program.

“Antony Tudor is one of 20th Century ballet’s treasures. He has an innate ability to dissect characters and get to the soul to create a compelling portrait of humanity . His works are true dance-dramas.”
- Gerald Arpino -
