Guillaume Basso was born in Dijon, France in 1991. He started ballet when he was 9 years old at the conservatory of Dijon. In 2006, Guillaume joined the school of Paris Opera Ballet under the direction of Elizabeth Platel and graduated after two years of study. During his training he had three teachers: Bernard Boucher, Eric Camillo, and Jacques Namont. Guillaume also worked with invited choreographers such as John Neumeier and Roland Petit. In 2008, he entered the class of Sylvain Boniface at the conservatory of Dijon and trained with him for two more years. During January 2010, Guillaume was selected to compete at the Prix de Lausanne. He competed until the semi-final and got offered a full scholarship for Houston Ballet II (HBII) that he joined in June 2010. The same year, he also won the first prize of the Toulon international ballet competition. Guillaume danced with HBII and the main company for the last two years under the direction of Stanton Welch, and trained with Claudio Muñoz, Andrew Murphy and Sabrina Lenzi in Houston. Guillaume joined The Joffrey Ballet as a company member for the 2012-2013 season.Guillaume Basso’s repertory with includes Paquita, Long and Winding Road, Blue, Red Earth, Nijinsky, Sleeping Beauty, Time to Dance, The Nutcracker, Brigade, Swan Lake, Les Forains, Yondering, and Finger Prints. He also danced the lead role in Raymonda during the international tour in Guatemala.Outside of dancing, Guillaume enjoys writing and reading. He likes to travel and to discover new countries with different cultures. Guillaume is also a student of philosophy at Nanterre University.
