The Development Department is responsible for raising contributed revenue which represents approximately 50 percent of the total revenue realized each fiscal year. Contributed revenue comes from individuals, corporations, foundations, government sources and special events and in this fiscal year will total more than $6 million. Members of the development staff interact regularly with members of the Ballet’s three boards – the Board of Directors (the governing body of the institution), the Women’s Board and the Joffrey Auxiliary Board.
An internship with the Joffrey offers valuable experience working in the vibrant and exciting environment of one of the top ballet companies in the country. Development Interns will gain an excellent over-view of nonprofit fundraising, donor communications, hands on experience with volunteer board members and special events, experience with the Joffrey’s donor database management software, Raisers Edge, and much more.
The Development Department is seeking three interns who have a high attention to detail, strong organizational skills, are self-motivated and team players. These internships are available immediately and will conclude in late May or early June.
The work environment at the Joffrey is fun and supportive while at the same time there are constant demands and frequent interruptions that must be attended to. There will be many opportunities to interact and partner with every member of the Development Team as well as interact with members of other departments of the Joffrey.
The General Development Intern will work on several large projects that support a specific area of fundraising: direct mail, major donors, corporate or foundation relations, research, etc. Activities may include preparing materials for solicitations, meetings and events, data entry and analysis and donor stewardship.
The Special Events interns will work on Joffrey’s Spring Gala which raises $1 million annually, the Joffrey Auxiliary Board’s primary fundraising event, Opening Night Dinners and Joffrey Circle Salons plus other development activities as assigned. Each intern will have a particular event focus and will be responsible for several specific areas related to that event such as assisting with the silent auction, art procurement and sale, developing materials and meeting follow-up.
The intern will be supervised by the Chief Development Officer at The Joffrey Ballet with the Director of Special Events supervising the events interns day-to-day.
