Auditions for Children’s Cast  

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to a new season at The Joffrey Ballet! The Academy of Dance is very excited to be coordinating the Nutcracker Children’s Corps this year. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some of the exciting new additions to our plans this season.

We will only be holding one day of auditions, Sunday, September 13, 2009. This audition is for all children interested in auditioning for The Nutcracker, from any studio or school, whether or not they have participated in The Joffrey’s Nutcracker in the past. Please attend the audition based on the age and height requirements listed below:

 •   All dancers 4’-4’5” (generally 9-11 years old) should come from 10:00-12:00pm.
     Registration for this audition will run from 9:00-10:00am, no earlier.

 •  Dancers 4’5”-5’, we ask that you attend the following times, according to age:
              -Ages 10-14 (generally intermediate ballet level) 12:30-2:30pm, registration running from 11:30-12:30pm, no earlier.
              -Ages 9-10 (generally beginning ballet level) 3:00-5:00pm, registration running from 2:00-3:00pm, no earlier.

We ask that all dancers be prepared to stay until 5:00pm. No dancer will be kept for all three audition.

We are thrilled to announce that all rehearsals will be coordinated by Academy faculty and Joffrey ballet masters. Rehearsals this year will be held primarily on Saturdays, with some rehearsals scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays for select parts.

There will also be one additional rehearsal on a Sunday in December. Students who are cast will receive a detailed rehearsal schedule one they confirm participation.

The Academy will also be offering Youth Division classes on Wednesdays and Saturdays conveniently scheduled around rehearsals. Please see the Youth Division schedule for further details.
